YouTube announced last week they would be releasing the YouTube Kids app which would make it safer and easier for children to find and watch videos on the platform. It's available on both Google Play and the App Store in the US.
The app features a very playful design with large images and even a built-in voice search to help children search for things they are curious about even if they can't spell or type. You can feel much safer knowing that all videos in the YouTube Kids app is narrowed down to content appropriate only for kids and parental controls are also included:
- Timer: Control your child's screen time with the built-in timer. Once the timer goes off, the session is over. You aren't the bad guy anymore!
- Sound settings: Background music and sound effects can be turned off while kids are browsing.
- Search settings: You can limit the pre-selected videos available on the home screen or even turn off search completely.
